5th Week in K4

The week has been wonderful for exploring God’s creation. Our class learned about clouds at our rain making station. The students went right to work using tongs or their hands to pick up cotton ball clouds and soaking them into our blue rain water.

The children were invited to use the cotton ball clouds to absorb the blue rain water. They squeezed the rain out of the clouds and back into the tub.

We walked outside with our “homemade” binoculars” and watched the rain clouds rolling in. The children made good observations based on what they had learned the day before.

Playing outside remains our favorite activity. With a touch of fall in the air we could not resist the chance to play in the leaves.

The children became acquainted with Pete the Cat this week. You might have heard them singing his songs, I’m rocking in my school shoes or I like my white shoes. Pete provided many fun opportunities to learn!

We completed our activities with a class graph that helped us to discover our favorite Pete the Cat book.   The children liked Pete the Cat, Rocking in my School Shoes.

We practiced building and writing the Letter E. We read Elmer the Elephant. The children liked this book about a patchwork elephant who had to learn how to be content with who he was. We talked about how we are all different and how important it is to be happy with the way God made us.

The children were able to mix it up with color this week.  We did science experiements and many activities that enabled them to take two colors and make a new color.

We ended our week with chapel, art, P.E. and a special Pete the Cat snack.  It was a good week in PreK.

4th week in K4

Our 4th week has been successfully completed.   Bible Time took us to the beginning of God’s Word.  We saw that God alone created the heavens and the earth with His spoken word.  To help us remember what God made on Day 1, the boys and girls made a creation jar that included layers of sand, rocks, dirt and moss.  For Day 2 our jar helped us to understand how God divided the waters from the waters and created the firmament.  We enjoyed watching them observe and hearing their thoughts.

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? continued to help us with color recognition and color words.  We made a Brown Bear puppet, retold the story, played math games and used the characters to help learn positional words.  The children have enjoyed this book.

We practiced the Letter F in the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum. We also met Mat Man this week.  We built him together as we sang his song.  It helped us to understand all the parts that we have in our amazing bodies.  You can tell by the pictures this was one of our favorite activities for the week.

Our week concluded with a very special chapel.   The children were able to take the inside out by honoring our community police officers.  The officers were presented with gifts, amazing cards, and many thanks.  The second part of our chapel was the gender reveal of Mrs. Field’s baby.  As you can see their family will be adding girl number 4.  Congratulations to all of them.

3rd week in k4

In Bible we read stories that helped us to understand how God loves and takes care of us.  We also shared the story of the Good Neighbor.  The children were concerned that people did not stop to help the man who was beaten and robbed.  They agreed to help anyone who needed it.

To help the children understand Labor Day, we talked about the men working outside our school to solve the “water” problem.  To say thank you, we held a parade in their honor.  We shared cold water and donuts with them.  The children made a thank you card to give them.  The men were touched by the sweet spirit of the boys and girls.  It was a good lesson in taking the inside out.

A favorite book this week was Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?

Reading this book helps us to recognize the colors by their names.  We will be doing a class book using this book as our example.

We have been exploring our 5 Senses given to us by God.  Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head helped us remember what the five senses are and what they do.  We have been looking, listening, smelling, tasting, and touching different things.   There is still more to explore.

We are talking about letters and sounds every day.  In the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum we listened to the directions and practiced tracing lines and the Letter L.  We reviewed what words begin with that letter.  We learned vertical and horizontal positions and used our bodies to practice them . A new song was introduced that will help them remember letters begin at the top.  The children took turns writing on the board or building with the wooden pieces the Letter L.   We completed the activity by writing the Letter  L.

There are many fun learning activities for each day.  We look forward to another week of learning and growing together.
